Some are groups of women such as the The Women of Gettysburg, The loyal women of the South and the Union Volunteer Refreshment Saloon of Philadelphia and others. Some of the biographies are quite extensive and discuss the womens' lives before the war. The final chapter is the faithful but less conspicuous laborers.Finally there is an index of names. There are the wonderful 16 engraved portraits and frontis illustration. Ex Library from Cornell University Library with a plate, a check out page and stamping including withdrawal stamp. Condition of text is very good.
And spine have separated from the text but are still attached as is the back cover. There is some old store receipt paper used as a liner visible. The spine has some surface missing from the bottom and there are library numbers in white on the spine. This has of course been digitized and is available on the interenet archive. But you can hold it in your hands!
