A Rebel War Clerk's Diary by John B. Collector's Library of the Civil War. Historian Douglas Southall Freeman call A Rebel War Clerk's Dairy a "Richmond Classic" filled with War-office gossip, much of it concerning Lee. Few Confederate Civil War diaries are quoted more than Jones who served in Southern War Department and watched the comings and goings of generals and politicians.

He was among the first to hear the scuttlebutt and rumors and sometimes unwise repeated them. Any student of the Civil War should read his writings, if even just to get a inside view of Confederate War Department. These two volumes are beautifully printed with hardcover in black with gold stamping.

Pages top and bottom are guilted in gold. A red ribbon bookmark is standard in this 1982 reprint of the original 1866 original.
