R. E. LEE Set Douglas Southall Freeman Gen. Rob't E. Lee biography 1st ED SIGNED
A recent estate sale find.. A FIRST EDITION of Douglas Southall Freeman's R.
LEE , his Four Volume set of the biography of General Robert E. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, DOUGLAS SOUTHALL FREEMAN. Kind of controversial biography as he concentrated more on strategic campaigns of the Civil War and less on social or political events surrounding the war. This got him brandished a " Lost Cause historian" by some but the work was very successful wound up winning the Pulitzer Prize. Freeman signed this copy to Joseph A Woods, Jr.
Woods was a notable California lawyer who in 1974 would serve as Senior Associate Special Counsel to the United States House of Representatives Judiciary Committee's impeachment inquiry staff during the impeachment process against Richard Nixon. Very good condition, clean complete, bright unmarked text. Spines very slightly sun faded. Over all, a VERY ATTRACTIVE FIRST EDITION Set of this historical work.
