This is a scarce, old, first edition copy of this. Civil War account, based on the author's diary entries during his time as a staff officer in General William T. Sherman's army, and chronicles the famous "March to the Sea" campaign. Finely bound in half-leather and marbled boards with beveled edges.

Eight gilt decorated raised bands on the spine with gilt lettering. The endpapers are beautifully marbled, and the edge of the text-block as well. Contains a fold-out map in the front, and 19 engravings. A fine addition for your collection of rare books!

Edge wear with some rubbing to the leather and boards, the corner tips worn through, small hole in the leather near top front of spine, name in the front, map has some creases, a few very minor page spots and a couple of short edge tears, overall in good-plus condition with a solid binding and mostly clean pages. For nearly all of our books, we use a specially designed boxing system from IPS (Inovative Packaging Solutions) located in York, PA. The end result is a box which provides a double thickness of cardboard covering the front and back of the book; actually almost like a box within a box. In addition we place the book in a plastic bag to help guard against moisture if a package is left out in the elements.
