Arthur Lyon Fremantle was a 19th-century British army officer known for his witness and role in the American Civil War, particularly the Battle of Gettysburg. While not a part of either the Confederate or Union armies, Fremantle kept a neutral perspective of the war, writing his thoughts and experiences in a journal which was later published after the war.
During a three-month tour of the South, Fremantle visited Texas and many deep south communities which was the basis for journal, published under the title Three Months in the Southern States.
