This 1860 Association Tract contrasts the New York Tribune's view of the South with the views of South Carolina's Senator Hammond. Tracing the intractable conflict between North and South to the country's birth, the author asserts, It is a great mistake to assign the election of Lincoln as the CAUSE for a disruption of the Federal Government. It is but the occasion. Secession and a separate Southern, slave-holding Confederacy are passionately urged. The last page, unnumbered, prints the'Constitution of 1860 Association,' whose purpose is promoting resistance, by the slaveholding States, to the aggressions of the non-slaveholding States.
