Both brothers served as members of the Washington Artillery, and this memoir was prepared for presentation at the 50th anniversary of the departure of the unit from New Orleans for the seat of war in Virginia. Baker confines himself mainly to his personal observations and experiences while campaigning with the Army of Northern Virginia.
The Washington Artillery was mustered in on May 26, 1861. It had service at the Battles of Antietam, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, Fredericksburg, First Manassas and Cold Harbor. This original, first edition, antique booklet is in excellent overall condition. It comes in a clear, archival sleeve with paperboard backing.There are a couple dark spots on the exterior wrap, but the interior is clean and tight. The interior has no writing, smudging, foxing, stamps, pasteboards or other markings.
