Giddings (1795 - 1864) spent 21 years in the US House of Representatives (1839 - 1859) as a social activist. Representative Giddings was influential in eventually helping shape and mold the Republican Party position of abolishing Slavery here in the USA in 1864 during the United States Civil War.
