Hammond was a leading 17th-century Anglican theologian, a Royalist who was loyal and very close to King Charles, and who was at one point imprisoned in Oxford by rival Parliamentary authorities under Oliver Cromwell during the English Civil War. Upper board of vol 3/part 1 nearly detached. Upper board of vol 2 fully detached. Fine period calf with gilt prize emblem.

Spine raised bands in six compartments. Fine gilt tooling and gilt titles to spine.

Boards very good or better with minimal wear including to edges and corners. Spines with heavier wear including scuffs and areas of flaked leather, some wear to spine tips. Fine marble endpapers, fine interior gilt dentelles, endpapers clean with no prize labels, POS markings or owner labels. Fine engraved frontis in vol 1.

Pages lightly toned with minimal infrequent spotting or foxing, generally clean and bright. Vol 1: A Practical Catechism, dated 1847, 400pps. Vol 2: Of The Reasonableness of Christian Religion, dated 1849, 410pps.

Vol 3 (in 2 parts): Sermons, dated 1849-50, 664pps. Half titles in all volumes. One of my favorite sellers.
