EXTREMELY RARE 1891 Hardcover Book BATTLEFIELDS & VICTORY Willis Abbot. A Narrative of the Principal Military Operations of the Civil War/ from the Accession of Grant to the Command of the Union Armies to the End Of The War. C1891 Dodd, Mead & Co. 329 pages with a hard canvas-backed blue cover and gold gilt lettering on the spine. Front board has a navy blue illustration of soldiers and the title of the book in vivid red. Lavishly Illustrated inside with 21 full-page black and white lithograph Illustrations on heavy paper.

This is an EXTREMELY RARE edition that is almost NEVER available. The Author wrote a book with a similar cover called Battle Fields of'61 which is widely available- this book is NOT. This amazing book is so rare that it has been published in a brand-new format on Amazon with the caveat: "This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it". For a scholar or hobbyist of the topic of the Civil War, this book in its original form is a fabulous repository of knowledge and an amazing artifact.

Good condition, inner spine cover is separated from bound pages and has come away from book BUT no pages are loose or unconnected inside- they are quite secure, tightly bound, and all in place. Spine has cracked inside front and back covers. There is wear to the outer corners of canvas but not to the bottom of canvas where book rests on shelf. A small loose piece of frayed canvas at top over the word BATTLE. Remarkably good condition inside, clean throughout, no damage or marks, no creased or bent pages, no missing pages. See all pics and use zoom, worn areas are all photographed in detail. Pages 152-153 have some tan darkening due to newspaper clippings being stored inside- quite minor see pic. A very handsome example of this title in collectible condition without excessive wear. Presents well on the shelf. Would make a wonderful gift for a collector or scholar! 9 1/8" x 6.25" x 1.5Deep.
