The dark blue cloth boards with gilt lettering show moderate bumping, rubbing, and fraying. The back cover shows some water damage.

The hinges and binding are very solid. The interior is clean excepting previous owner's name and address, some staining of the front endpapers, and very mild foxing and tanning. Contains frontispiece with tissue guard and many other black and white illustrations. The 24th Massachusetts spent time in Eastern North Carolina during the Civil War, including New Bern and Washington, North Carolina as well as in Virginia.

Roe was a veteran of the Civil War. The book is exactly as shown.
