Using both text and the extraordinary photographs taken at the time by Mathew B. Brady, under the authority of President Lincoln and now in the possession of the War Department, this book is organized into sixteen sections covering the entire war. It is absolutely loaded with photographs of battle scenes and also contains sixteen separate, full-color plates of great commanders in action.

From the famous and authentic Brady war photography collection there has been selected portraits of the great commanders and leaders of both the Union and Confederate armies and Navies, and many scenes of great historical interest. Battleground, fortifications, and dead and wounded, hospitals, and incidents of this great conflict are all included. This is the 1912, 50th Civil War Anniversary Edition, bound in 3/4 leather covers with leather spine and corners and with textured, black covers. The book has bright, impressed, gold lettering and decorative, lined highlights on the spine. The exterior is clean and the gold lettering is bright. The exterior has no bumping.

It has light rubbing and edge wear. The interior is clean and pages are in excellent condition. There isn't a mark in the book.

The book is free of any writing, foxing, stamps, pasteboards or other markings. It is not an ex-library book. The book has a large, full page, full-color, illustrtation of General Grant being saluted as a frontispiece. It has several other full-color illustrations and hundreds of period photographs throughout the book.

The book has solid binding throughout. This is a large book measuring 12 inches by 9 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches. This is a comprehensive history of the Civil War, with full-page, full-color illustrations and black-and-white photographs by Brady and other photographers. Overall this is an excellent condition, uncommon, 50th Anniversary book on the history of the Civil War with color illustrations and the photographs of Mathew Brady and others.
