Civil War Era Antique English Ironstone Mortar stone bowl (no pestle included). Marked Trade Mark M with diamond.

5 1/2 D x 3 1/2 H. There are no chips or cracks, but it does have some staining. We did not attempt to remove the stains because we did not want to disturb the condition or value. Over 10 years ago, it was found underground (in earth) in New York - behind the Old Homestead underneath Strawberry Fields - it came out of the one of the many outhouse pits - It is identified as Civil War Era.
