Approximately the first half of the book is narrative history of the units and movements of the regiment during the course of the conflict. The second half is the stuff of which dreams are made (at least for a historian or a novelist): muster rolls, casualty figures, desertion figures, deaths from disease, photographs, entries about each individual, and an extensive bibliography. The 14th Virginia Cavalry Regiment was a cavalry regiment raised in Virginia for service in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War.
