Cloth boards are soiled and scuffing along edges. Volume 1 title label missing from spine, and volume 3 title label chipped at edges.
Boards are bumped at corners and chipped at spine ends. Top edges of text-blocks gilt. Text-block fore and bottom edges are deckled. Text-blocks are yellowing with age staining throughout.
Volume 2 text-block has dampness staining along top edge throughout. Volumes 1 and 3 have binding mesh exposed at front gutters. Loose maps are missing from books.
Bindings are fragile but intact. New York Monuments Commission for the Battlefields of Gettysburg, Chattanooga and Antietam. Was a commission set up by New York State.
In 1886 to honor the dead from Battle of Gettysburg. Served as chairman until Lewis R. Replaced him as chairman in 1912.
