I acquired the book with the added wrapper have not removed it but looking under it the boards appear to have as expected age wear to a mid 19th century book with detached cover with clear tape, vertically up and down the spine and margins of the boards nearest to the spine. Front endpapers show tatter as well as some water marks. Interior is very clean and water marks do not occur past front endpapers, likewise there is little to no tatter to pages after the front endpapers. Coverboard is split from the rest of the book just before the front index page of engravings and still has the title page as well as endpapers connected to it. To June 1863 contents plus one extra issue, a May 16, 1857, before the 1863 contents begin.
At the inner margin of a page of the 1857 issue and the first 1863 is a vertical clear tape repair. After the first issue of 1863 there are no more tape repairs besides at the gutter between the back endpapers also and the book's binding stabilizes and in the main is quite firm throughout the vast majority of the book. Towards the end of the book, between pages 676 and 677, though still connected at the upper and lower binding strings is a split at the gutter. Book is profusely illustrated in original 1863 prints which are clean, crisp and well intact.
Book totals 708 pages, measures approximately 16 1/2 x 11 3/4 x 2 1/4 inches and weighs about 8 1/2 pounds. This item is in the category "Books & Magazines\Antiquarian & Collectible".
