Haerle association copy of The Iron Brigade: A Military History by Alan T. Nolan, published by The Macmillan Company, 1961. This is not simply a signed copy. It is a first printing association copy inscribed by Alan T.

Haerle, with an additional handwritten signed letter from Nolan to Haerle laid in, plus a period newspaper clipping concerning Nolan. Haerle appears to be Rudolf K.

Haerle, a significant Indiana Civil War history figure and part of Alan T. Nolan's Civil War Round Table circle. This association is especially meaningful because The Iron Brigade is Nolan's landmark Civil War study.

Also included is a handwritten signed letter from Alan T. Nolan to "Colonel Haerle, " dated 10-23-85, written on Alan T. Nolan's printed personal/professional letterhead bearing his name, Indianapolis business address, and telephone number. The letterhead sheet measures approximately 7.5" x 10.5" and is signed Alan. The letter appears to read, in part. I know you're not nuts - or perhaps we both are. I was in Italy at the time of your call. I request that you ask for me when you call. Between the practice and management chores here my days are often hectic, but I would frequently be available for lunch. Best to you & Betty - Alan. Also included is a small period newspaper clipping headed "Living Room Shot, " concerning a reported shot fired into Alan T. The clipping was found laid in with the book and will be included. The original dust jacket is present. Two jacket corners are clipped, but the original price remains visible. Jacket is now protected in an archival Mylar cover. Condition: Book is clean and presentable overall, with no musty smell and no notable foxing observed. The major condition issue is hinge/binding cracking visible at both the front and rear interior hinges. The binding is weakened at those points but still holding, and the book stands on its own.

Boards show light shelf wear, with bright gilt Iron Brigade emblem on front board and gilt spine lettering still present. Interior pages are clean and readable. Dust jacket condition: Original jacket shows age toning, soiling/scuffing, edge wear, corner wear, clipped corners, and two significant rear-jacket tears. Jacket remains attractive from the front and is protected in archival Mylar.
