Lights and Shadows of Army Life, An Westervelt, First Edition

  
Wm Westervelt was a veteran of the Civil War, serving with the 27th Infantry and the 16th NY Veteran Zouaves. After the war, he authored this book which was based on his private war diary. This narrative is seen from his perspective, a common soldier. This rare first edition is signed by the author, "Merry Christmas ", 1887, Wm B Westervelt. The book was given to George Walker in 1887, and passed on to his son and two more generations (see notes inside cover, some pencil markings). The book has binding damage with both covers detached but otherwise nice vintage cover that could be rebound. The inside pages are clean and unmarked except for pencil mark on pg 96 (see image).
