Maps of: Portion of the Valley of Virginia, Battle of Fort Republic, Battle of Cold Harbor, Battle of Sharpsburg, Battle of Chancellorsville, and Battle of Manasses. Wood-cut Engravings: Last Meeting of General Lee and Stonewall Jackson, and View of Forley's Statue of Jackson. Also, an Appendix containing Personal Reminiscences and a Full Account of the Ceremonies Attending the Unveiling of Foley's Statue [of Jackson] including the oration by Moses D.
The Appendix is by Rev. Author of Personal Reminiscences of General Lee. [The statue of Stonewall Jackson, by John Henry Foley, was completed in 1875 and placed near the Virginia state capital]. From what we know, Cooke first published Stonewall Jackson: A Military Biography in 1866 shortly after the end of the Civil War.
The first edition was obviously revised to add the information about the statue of Stonewall Jackson which was not completed until 1875, and therefore could not have been in the original 1866 publication. There could have been other additions or revisions in this 1876 edition, but not being experts on either of these editions, we couldn't say. CONDITION - the book, for the most part, is in Excellent Condition - professionally rebound. Some of the pages have only a little bit of minor foxing, otherwise excellent.Unfortunately, four pages of the Appendix, 576 to 579, appear to have been stuck to each other in a few spots which caused some tearing when someone apparently tried to separate them (see our images). As a result, a little bit of the text is torn away. The book has the Kansas City, Mo. Public Library stamp on the Content page.
