Lloyd's Battle History of the Great Rebellion. With pencil ownership signature of Charles Prescott of Laconia/Gilford, NH. Surprisingly scarce Civil War history, with very few copies on the market. Although a general history, this compilation is of special interest for its 17 battlefield maps -- most of them small, folding ones along with some integral, full-page ones -- 49 striking portraits of generals + 39 others, 268 battle descriptions and 13 battle pictures. Spine sunned with a few small chips to leather.

Although the joints are sound, the front board sounds a little creaky when you open it and the first number of leaves (including the title page) are a little tender and probably should be handled with a modicum of care. There is some foxing and occasional finger-smudges to the first 20-30 pages; after that, the text is largely quite clean and nice. An appealing, handsome copy overall.
