1862 Philadelphia & Erie Rail Road Co Annual Meeting Proceedings Report    1862 Philadelphia & Erie Rail Road Co Annual Meeting Proceedings Report
Original Civil War-era proceedings of the annual meeting of the stockholders of the Philadelphia and Erie Rail Road Company, held February 10, 1862, together with reports of the company's managers, vice president, and other officers. Published during an important transitional period for the railroad, the pamphlet records the company's management, finances, operations, and continuing construction of the route across Pennsylvania. Title: Proceedings of the Annual Meeting of the Stockholders of the Philadelphia and Erie Rail Road Company, Held February 10, 1862, with the Reports of the Managers, Vice President, &c. Publisher/Printer: Crissy & Markley, Printers, Goldsmiths Hall, Library Street. Format: Printed pamphlet in blue-green wrappers. Includes the proceedings of the February 10, 1862 stockholders' meeting; lists of managers and officers; reports concerning company operations, construction, finances, and indebtedness; and the report of the vice president and general superintendent. Of particular historical interest is the printed legislation included in the pamphlet concerning the former Sunbury and Erie Rail Road Company, including an act changing its name to the Philadelphia and Erie Rail Road Company and authorizing a lease of the railroad. The report dates from the middle of the Civil War and documents a major Pennsylvania railroad while its long-planned east-west route was still being completed.

Financial figures, corporate decisions, construction matters, and contemporary railroad administration are recorded throughout. An appealing primary-source document for collectors of early American railroadiana, Pennsylvania history, Philadelphia history, transportation history, and Civil War-era material. Original printed front wrapper and blank rear wrapper present. Handwritten "22" to front wrapper. Original sewn binding remains visible, with some wear around the stitching and spine.

Interior pages are lightly toned but generally clean and well preserved, with text remaining clear and legible. Please see photographs for full condition and detail. Topic: Railroads; Pennsylvania; Philadelphia & Erie Railroad; Civil War; Transportation History.
